New issues of Studies in Comparative Religion will be published starting in 2009. Each new issue of Studies will focus on only one unifying topic or theme. A free on-line copy of each issue will be sent to each subscriber and to every member of World Wisdom’s Reader Advantage Program. Paper copies of each issue will also be available for purchase by interested readers.
New issues will be published as they are completed and without a set publication schedule. It is anticipated that approximately three new issues will be published every two years.
Characteristics of most new issues will include:
- Diverse essays centered around a specific topic, including
- New articles prepared for each issue.
- Classic Perennialist articles on the selected topic but never before published in Studies.
- A bibliography of articles on the selected topic in the Studies on-line archive.
- Selected book reviews of books on the specific topic.
- Contributors will be encouraged to prepare new articles that summarize the thought of deceased Perennialist authors on the selected topics, including extensive quotations from throughout the entire corpus of the deceased author.
Some issues may also include articles summarizing the thoughts of saints and sages of the world’s religions, or which summarize the teachings of the great wisdom traditions.
Each new issue will therefore consolidate diverse articles on a single topic by authors who have been influenced in different ways by Traditionalism or Perennialism. This broad mix of sources will include new articles, classic articles by deceased Perennialist authors, articles that summarize the thought of deceased Perennialist authors, primary and secondary texts from the different religions, and writings of the great sages of history. In many respects, these issues will complement the anthologies in World Wisdom’s Perennial Philosophy Series, which are based around a central topic or theme.
The goal of this overall format is to allow readers to better understand the specific topic of each issue by placing the differences of the authors—from both within and without the Perennialist School—in sharp relief. While it is evident that common principles are identifiable in the writings of authors who are associated with or influenced by the Perennialist school of thought, there is no shortage of strong opinions among these authors; thus, readers will be able to identify differences of opinion and note different points of emphasis.

Each new issue of SCR will have a rotating (or guest) editor who will arrange for new articles and copyright permissions in the same manner that an editor would prepare a book for publication. The rotating editor will be listed as the author for the print-on-demand (POD) book that will also be created with each issue. Each POD book will have its own CIP data listing in the Library of Congress and be sold on this site and Amazon. The new printed issues should be welcome additions to public or private libraries that want to maintain a complete set of printed copies of the journal.
We may be able to provide prospective editors and contributors with various types of assistance, including copyright permissions and digital scans of the writings of authors that include Frithjof Schuon, Titus Burckhardt, A.K. Coomaraswamy, Marco Pallis, and others. E-mails from prospective contributors will be forwarded to the respective rotating editors.
There are no time deadlines for rotating editors, although we will appreciate knowing the progress and approximate date of completion. Each issue will be published as it is completed.
Please write to webmaster@worldwisdom.com to express your interest.
